I prayed today for you and your children that the joy of the Lord would be your strength. May that joy continue through the weekend and beyond!
Prayer is such an interesting topic and can be so intimate between you and God. I cannot say I have always been a consistent “pray-er”. However, when my children were young, I certainly became one. Because I have repeatedly seen the fruit of my prayers, I want to encourage you to do the same for your own children. Since many of you are already praying, I encourage you to continue and not give up. You will see the fruit, if not immediately, over the years to come.
I love to use God’s word as the basis of my prayers and a great way to begin. Following are 3 prayers you can pray for your children. Whether you are a beginner or a veteran at this, I pray these examples will be a help to you.
“Jesus, please let my child know he/she is SO special to You and to me. I praise you because he/she is fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Help me, Jesus, to be able to express your love to my child every day and instilling in them a knowledge of how very special he/she is to you.” Psalms 139:14
“Jesus, I know you tell us not to be afraid. Please help my child know you are with them all day, every day. Let them know when they call out to you when they feel afraid, you are with them, will strengthen them and help them.” When my children were between 6-8 years old, I had them memorize this verse: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
“Jesus, You have said You give wisdom and from Your mouth come knowledge and understanding. Please give me the wisdom to train up my child in the way he/she should go and give them wisdom they need to live a life after Your own heart. Jesus, they need wisdom in a decision (name it) they are making right now; I know You will give it to them as they seek You for answers. Teach them what is best for them as You direct them in the way they should go.” Proverbs 2:6, Isaiah 48:17, Acts 13:22, Proverbs 22:6
